Not Just Another D&I Event

Corecom’s Diversity and Inclusion Ambassadors Aishia Ullah and Dom Brown recently hosted a collaboration event with our sister company, Corecom Technology Academy named ‘Not Just Another D&I Event’.

The event focused on what intersectionality is, the current EDI trends, challenges organisations face around the digital skills shortage, and ways businesses can begin to fill their skills gap through better hiring, training, and retention processes that embrace ED&I, Neurodiversity, Social Mobility, and Intersectionality.

Our panellists of ED&I experts included:

  • John Ebo – Head of Projects ED&I at Leeds City Council
  • Cleveland Henry – Group Delivery & Deployment Director at EMIS
  • Holly Straker-Humphreys – Head of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging at Improbable
  • James Taylor – Managing Director at CTA

Together they identified strategies to get more applications from underrepresented groups, discussed why change is a good thing for ED&I in recruitment, and the importance of listening and acting on ideas from diverse groups. The conversation around ED&I is only going to continue by inspiring more people and allowing those from underrepresented groups to have a voice.

It was a powerful event that left the whole room leaving with new ideas to implement personally and professionally, with one attendee stating:

“The best D&I event I have ever attended. Excellently presented with some fantastic speakers, and wonderful hosts and I loved the topics covered. It’s hard to find events like this that are leading by example, practicing what they preach, and covering topics that many organisations are not brave enough to cover. A very worthwhile and important event.”

There is still plenty of work to do to create an inclusive tech sector. If you need help with your D&I strategy, get in touch with Aishia or Dom to find out how they can help with you with running an inclusive recruitment campaign.

Thank you to all of those who attended our first D&I event of the year, you can find the highlights video below.
