Under the spotlight with Talent Acquisition Coordinator & Diversity and Inclusion Champion at BJSS

BJSS is a technology and engineering consultancy, who are doing some great work to address the gender imbalance in tech. Here’s what Beth Gibbins, Talent Acquisition Coordinator & Diversity and Inclusion Champion at BJSS, has to say about why BJSS is a great company to work for and how the company has helped her to excel in her career.

Tell me about your career journey, including where you started to where you are now?

I started out working in agency recruitment for the corporate IT sector in 2014. From here I went on to gain experience in employability within the health and social care sector which is where my love of Diversity and Inclusion grew exponentially. I moved over to internal recruitment in 2017 and after 5 years at St Anne’s Community Services, I was offered a job as Talent Acquisition Coordinator for BJSS.

What company do you work for and what are they like as an employer?

I currently work for BJSS, they’re a great company to work for. You’re always surrounded by an array of talented people which means plenty of opportunities to learn and to grow. I love the flexibility that their hybrid working policy offers and there’s always a social event to look forward to with my lovely colleagues.

How has your employer given you opportunities to thrive?

There are so many talented people at BJSS with so many different skill-sets, that this alone was an excellent opportunity for me to grow and thrive. There are always opportunities within BJSS to undertake qualifications of your choice. One of my favourite things about BJSS is the “lunch and learns” where staff from our various departments host information sessions about what they do, sharing skills and knowledge about various capabilities.

Given your experiences, what advice would you give to women in technology regarding choosing the right employer?

Find out what is important to you, what gets you out of bed in the morning and what kind of environment and team helps you to grow/thrive. Then make sure whoever you choose to work has values that align with yours and is full of likeminded people to nurture your talent.
