Candlelighters is a wonderful children’s cancer charity set up some 40 years ago to bring light and hope to children and their families living across Yorkshire.

Providing a whole host of holistic wellbeing services, the charity ensures that families’ emotional, practical and financial needs are met at every step of their journey with cancer, whilst also carrying out crucial educational and research work.

Specialist services include a family support centre offering talking therapies and support groups, a dedicated Outreach Play Specialist and a team of Family Support Workers offering much needed front-line support for families in hospital. And for families having to travel a distance from home for hospital care, The Candlelighters Cottage also offers a calming home away from home. Dedicated to filling the gaps in support, Candlelighters plays a pivotal role in improving the outcomes and lives of children with cancer across the county.

What Corecom do

We were delighted to join Candlelighters ‘Team 500’ in 2020, a community of businesses each committing to raise £500 within the year after Candlelighters experienced a sharp decline in fundraising during the onset of Covid 19.

As a member of Team 500, Corecom hosts a range of events and activities to raise much needed funds for Candlelighters. Recent events include Pink It Up Week, a fun initiative to brighten the days of young people and their families whilst undergoing a stay in hospital. We were honoured to provide funding for pink party bags, brimming with pink goodies, and some fun outdoor games, for children receiving cancer treatment at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

As a thank you to the NHS teams carrying out incredible work, especially during such difficult times, we also treated the oncology team to some scrummy pink doughnuts.

We have truly fallen in love with this charity and the inspiring work it does to support children and families during their darkest days and are humbled to support the crucial work of this amazing team.

Statistics

£500 minimum raised each year to support the work of Candlelighters.

We are also immensely proud of two of our employees, Sam Finnegan and Kelly Newton, who braved icy cold water, thick mud and numerous obstacles to complete the Total Warrior 12k, along with Ash Grant and her daughter Ella, who completed the Junior Warrior to raise a whopping £600 for Team 500, smashing our annual target in one go. What a team!

What people say about us
We’re proud to be a 5-star rated company on Google. See what people say about us.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on children with cancer and their families. Extended periods of separation and isolation, anxiety and financial hardship have all taken their toll and the need for our specialist support has become ever more critical. However, sadly, at Candlelighters, we saw our fundraising grind to a halt during the pandemic, which is why we put Team 500 into motion. And we are so thrilled that Corecom have come on board with supporting us on this initiative. In going above and beyond their fundraising goals, we are able to continue to provide critical support and make life a little brighter for the 150 families in Yorkshire devastated by a cancer diagnosis each year.

Thank you Corecom Consulting for your support, it means the world to us and to our families.
