Why Aren’t Recruiters More Respectful of My Day Job?
Are recruitment consultants taking up too much of your time? Do you sigh when the phone rings and it’s them….again? Are you repeating the same thing over and over? If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
If you’re using multiple recruitment agencies when filling a vacancy (which 38.5% of hiring managers prefer to do*) or one single agency, and feeling like you don’t have time to do your day job, then it’s time to refine your current recruitment process.
What Is the recruitment process?
The recruitment process is the stages of attracting and selecting a new employee to fill a job vacancy in an organisation. This is usually completed by Human Resource (HR) managers, departmental managers, recruiters or a combination of each. HR managers usually co-ordinate the process, liaising with relevant departments and members of the team to streamline the process. The recruitment process typically involves:
- Finding the candidate with the best skills, experience and personality fit for the role
- Collating and reviewing relevant CVs and holding job interviews
- Selecting and onboarding the chosen employee
What does a ‘good’ recruitment process look like?
A good recruitment process is one that enables you to find qualified candidates efficiently and effectively. This requires organisation, planning and continual evaluation. It should be streamlined to ensure that every contributor has the tools and resources to complete their role in the process. This may involve, for example:
- Setting out goals and diarising meetings with recruitment consultants at the very beginning of the recruitment process so that you can plan around those and still meet the requirements of your day job
- Providing the recruiter with as much information as possible at the briefing stage – the more you provide at the very start, the less you’ll need to give further down the line
- It goes without saying that your recruitment consultant should provide you with the CV and background of the interviewee prior to the interview commencing
- They should also inform the candidate of the full interview schedule so that they know what to expect and aren’t left wondering what happens next
Hiring managers say that they spend an average of three hours briefing recruitment agencies, yet 69.2% still say that they haven’t understood their brief. On average, they are spending two hours reviewing CVs, with a whopping 76.9% saying that they receive poor quality CVs*. It’s no wonder that you’re not getting enough time to do your day job!
Using multiple agencies has its benefits but this is likely to be the cause of your time being eaten away and it is recommended that you avoid using this multi-agency contingency method. If you are already only using one recruitment agency exclusively, then it may be that their recruitment process isn’t up to scratch.
OK, so how do I maximise the time to do my day job whilst getting quality candidates for my job vacancies?
You can achieve this by choosing a recruitment ‘partner’ with a solid and efficient recruitment process.
Recruitment companies have historically been guilty of (unknowingly) not working in their client’s best interests with multiple supplier arrangements on a contingency model. This has created a race to the bottom culture where:
- Bad business practice is encouraged
- Speed is prioritised over quality
- Costly miss-hires are made for clients
At Corecom we’ve decided to revolutionise how we work, engaging with our clients as partners, not suppliers and removing the pressure on the recruitment industry to compromise on time and quality. We’ve named this ‘Corecom Partnerships’.
Corecom Partnerships was built from the ground up to solve the recurring problems and frustrations encountered by employers when using recruitment agencies. By adopting a true partnership model, a tried and tested recruitment process and a dedicated delivery team, we can make sure that we efficiently and effectively get you the best candidate for the job without consuming your time.
We’ll work with you to:
- Create a consistent employer brand you can be proud of, with a focus on the candidate journey
- Make sure you’re hitting the right people
- Add value to your business
