Corecom recognises being supportive rather than performative of Pride Month
June is Pride month – a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities all around the world. And this year, Pride is having a special celebration as it is 50 years old. Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship and to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come. But here at Corecom, despite huge advances in Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), we think there’s still plenty to be done in the workplace.
One way of looking at this is ‘Performative versus Supportive’. So what does this mean? Many companies change their company colours to Pride colours during the month of June and post messages on social media without doing anything to actually support the LGBT+ community. So that is performative. Here at Corecom we go the extra mile to support all of our colleagues. As a recruiter, we believe that we have a role to play in supporting our clients and our candidates to also strive for a more inclusive world. We offer a wide range of services as well as working with community partners to ensure that recruiters, candidates and those at the start of their journey to employment in the tech sector, all gain the opportunity to understand their rights and responsibilities and to challenge held perceptions and practices.
We also understand the ethical, economic and cultural benefits of having a diverse and inclusive workforce and champion this model at every level of our business. We’ve two passionate D&I Ambassadors in place, Aishia Ullah and Dom Brown who have worked tirelessly with all employees to make sure we, as a company, are being fully inclusive in our recruitment approach and hiring without bias, focusing on culture add rather than culture fit. Our Managing Director, Jonathan Sanderson, plays a key part in driving this agenda forward:
“D&I is core to our company values and we want employees to feel they can be their true selves in an environment where differences are celebrated.”
And it’s really paying off. Corecom won ‘Best Talent Acquisition Team’ at the Prolific North Awards in May 2022. The award win acknowledges us as a highly attractive company to work for and a recruiter of the best talent in the industry.
It’s important for employers to take their corporate social responsibilities very seriously. Donate to LGBT+ causes where you can, support workshops and meetings in the community and place D&I at the heart of your company values, then you can truly feel you are being supportive.

I have seen the challenges that people with protected characteristics face and I’d like to be a part of the population that is fighting for change. I have personally seen benefits from growing up within a diverse friendship group and around a family from different culture backgrounds. I want to encourage people to celebrate people’s differences and to take the opportunity to learn about others and accept them for who they are just as they would like to be accepted themselves.
