From Boss to LeadersLab: The evolution of Corecom’s event series.

For a decade, Corecom’s “Boss” events series in Leeds has been synonymous with inspiring talks, captivating speakers, and fostering tech leadership skills in the region. But just like the constantly evolving tech landscape, language, and societal perceptions shift. That’s why we’re excited to announce an exciting refresh for our legendary series, shedding the “Boss” moniker and embracing a name that better reflects the inclusivity, dynamism, and future-focused vision of our tech community.

Back in 2014, Corecom owners Jon and Rick devised the series to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge to become leaders in their fields. They attracted a stellar line-up of speakers and even fiercely protected the concept after a rival attempted to copy it. Rick even went all in, trademarking the “Boss” name! Since 2014 we’ve held over 100 “Boss” events including the TestBoss, DevBoss, BABoss, ChangeBoss, DataBoss, BIBoss, CloudBoss, ITBoss & WITBoss series, and welcomed over a thousand attendees from the tech leadership community in Yorkshire.

However, like any word, “Boss” hasn’t remained static. While it still evokes notions of authority and mastery, it has acquired some less desirable connotations: outdated patriarchal figures, omnipresent micromanagers, and the increasingly unpopular “girl boss” trend. We value your feedback, and many members of our community expressed a disconnect with the “Boss” title, finding it out of touch with modern leadership styles like servant leadership. Additionally, the word’s transformation into a verb (“to boss a topic”) further muddied the waters.

So, the time has come for a change! We’re proud of the legacy of “Boss” events, but to keep inspiring exceptional leadership in the UK’s northern tech scene, we need a name that reflects the present and embraces the future.

Introducing Corecom LeadersLab, the next chapter in our journey! This fresh moniker embodies the essence of what we aim to achieve: fostering a collaborative space for leaders and aspiring leaders across diverse tech fields to experiment, innovate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible.

We remain dedicated to bringing you the best in-person tech events in the north, featuring diverse perspectives, groundbreaking ideas, and the power to propel your career forward. You may have attended our hugely successful “WITBoss” event for Women in Tech? There were 100 people in the room, our biggest and best WIT event to date. That spirit of inclusivity and collaboration continues, with new speakers, new topics, and a renewed focus on practical workshops and interactive sessions. We’re not abandoning our core, we’re simply expanding it, embracing a broader vision of leadership and innovation.

Join us on this exciting journey as Corecom LeadersLab builds upon the wonderful foundation of “Boss” and propels us all towards even greater heights. Stay tuned for updates, announcements, and the unveiling of what promises to be another season of exceptional tech events in Leeds and the Netherlands. What people say about us
We’re proud to be a 5-star rated company on Google. See what people say about us.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on children with cancer and their families. Extended periods of separation and isolation, anxiety and financial hardship have all taken their toll and the need for our specialist support has become ever more critical. However, sadly, at Candlelighters, we saw our fundraising grind to a halt during the pandemic, which is why we put Team 500 into motion. And we are so thrilled that Corecom have come on board with supporting us on this initiative. In going above and beyond their fundraising goals, we are able to continue to provide critical support and make life a little brighter for the 150 families in Yorkshire devastated by a cancer diagnosis each year.

Thank you Corecom Consulting for your support, it means the world to us and to our families.
