Corecom Consulting joins four-day boycott of social media in a bid to tackle online abuse
In support of a campaign to wipe out abuse and discrimination across all social media platforms, Corecom Consulting won’t be posting on social media for the next four days. We join leading football clubs, rugby union, rugby league, cricket and major corporate bodies in a bid to show solidarity against media giants Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and encourage them to take a much stronger stance when tackling racism and online abuse.
The ban starts at 15.00 BST on Friday and ends at 23.59 Monday and the aim is to show these powerful platforms that they need to do more to combat abuse and to create change. Manchester United report that over the period of Sept 2019 to Feb 2021 there had been a 350% increase in online abuse targeted at its players and a survey of elite sportswomen in 2020 by the BBC also indicated that about a third its participants had suffered some form of abuse on social media.
Managing Director of Corecom Consulting, Jonathan Sanderson said:
“Corecom is supporting this campaign because we know that social media has a huge impact on the younger generation and people’s mental health. This type of abuse can be very damaging and it’s not only directed to footballers but to everyday people.
“We need to put pressure on these huge companies to be more accountable and we think that collective action like this is the best way to bring about change.”

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on children with cancer and their families. Extended periods of separation and isolation, anxiety and financial hardship have all taken their toll and the need for our specialist support has become ever more critical. However, sadly, at Candlelighters, we saw our fundraising grind to a halt during the pandemic, which is why we put Team 500 into motion. And we are so thrilled that Corecom have come on board with supporting us on this initiative. In going above and beyond their fundraising goals, we are able to continue to provide critical support and make life a little brighter for the 150 families in Yorkshire devastated by a cancer diagnosis each year.
Thank you Corecom Consulting for your support, it means the world to us and to our families.
