University of Leeds students learn the art of networking
Corecom Consulting is proud to support local universities and their students in the community. Earlier this year, Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director of Corecom Consulting, delivered a guest lecture for first-year business students titled ‘Professional Networking’ at the University of Leeds.
The session consisted of interactive tasks and activities within the group to help the students with their future careers. The presentation content covered; what networking is, why it’s important, how to effectively network professionally, with examples from Jonathan’s own personal experiences and the value of using your network.
The lecture introduced networking to students as a key part to securing a successful career. It emphasised the importance of getting a head start now, by building a network with important connections that will benefit them along their career journeys.
Jonathan Sanderson, said:
“A passion of mine is giving back to the community and helping students with their future career journey by giving advice and knowledge to aid them and become successful. My guidance emphasises the importance of networking focusing on areas which students may not have thought about before.”
First year Business Students said:
“Although I know about LinkedIn, it was good to be reminded that I need to develop a profile. I liked the fact that Jonathan discussed networking in relation to his own experiences, giving examples.”
Sally Gibbs, Personal Tutor at the University of Leeds, said:
“My personal reflection is that Jonathan provides the students with a reality check, i.e. it’s not just about getting a degree but about hard work, seizing opportunities, developing a wide network, & also giving back to the community. I think the latter is really important and something students probably don’t think much about at this stage in their lives.”
