Ash, our Talent Acquisition Manager at Corecom Consulting, is always seeking to connect with ambitious, driven and confident people to join the Corecom team. As one of the company’s Women in Technology Associate, we asked her to share her experiences of working for Corecom, the challenges she faces when recruiting women into tech recruitment positions and why we are a great company to work for.
Tell us about your role at Corecom?
“I joined Corecom in January 2019 after returning from a long career break while raising a family in the Middle East. My role is to find and place experienced (and when the need arises), Junior/Trainee Recruiters within the company. This involves all areas of the recruitment process from candidate sourcing through headhunting, job ad’s/response, job boards and outsourcing methods to interviewing and managing the interview process through to onboarding. I also get involved with all aspects of marketing for Talent Acquisition. I work on a part-time basis as I have a young family and the company support that with flexibility. We are Leeds City Centre based so when I am in the office it’s an easy commute and a fun working environment.”
Talk us through the importance of women for you
“As a mum of two young girls, I want them to know that there is no limit to what they can achieve in life. I love to see women smashing stereotypes. It’s so good to see more women thrive in the Tech Recruitment market as from personal experience, it was always deemed to be more male dominated, thankfully things seem more balanced now.”
What are the challenges you face when recruiting women into tech recruitment?
“One of my biggest challenges can sometimes be the perception from candidates that IT Recruitment is more male dominated and the industry is cut throat, especially if the candidate is transferring from another industry. I think also some people think they need to be very knowledgeable in IT to recruit in the industry. This obviously comes with experience. Women sometimes fear that they will be the minority in the company or won’t fit in. I try to overcome this by highlighting the successes of the females within our business and also by showing them the progression path they could follow to allow them to grow within the business.”
How would a woman benefit from joining the Corecom team?
“I think within Corecom we have always celebrated the successes of our consultants and encouraged everyone to have a voice within the company, regardless of gender. People like to feel they bring value to a business. We make people feel valued and supported and have a number of females working within more senior roles within the business. As far as encouraging women to join the industry, I think we only need to look at the sheer number of successful female IT Recruiters/recruitment business owners in the UK now to see that it’s a thriving industry for women to join and progress quickly in.”
Tell us about the types of women you are looking for to join the Corecom team?
“We are looking for ambitious, driven and confident women with a background in IT Recruitment and who want progression and the opportunity to build, not only their own personal brand, but also the opportunity to potentially build a team in the future.”
If you could offer one piece of advice to a woman thinking about joining the tech recruitment industry, what would it be?
“Go for it! From personal experience, companies are more supportive and encouraging of women in the industry than ever before.”
