Woman in tech? Join the community, be inspired, create your future

Employers in the tech industry find it a challenge to retain women. Successful companies focus on mentorship, encouraging women to support one another and recognise that they will benefit if they encourage women to be themselves – fully themselves, with their own freely expressed perspectives.

WITBoss: a unique community for women in tech

Do you commit to knowing your own mind and speaking it in the workplace?

Are you confident enough to trust your own instincts amongst your colleagues?

Lisa Jones, Founder and Director at Barclay Jones will be leading and challenging these discussions at WITBoss, including:

  • who she looks to for inspiration
  • lessons learned during her career
  • how she’s thrived in the industry.

WITBoss is a free invitation-only networking event for female leaders in the IT industry. It takes place on 20 June 2017 in central Leeds from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. Click here to register your interest.

Who is Lisa Jones?

Lisa has a real passion for tech and has worked in the industry for over 20 years.

She started her career as an IT Trainer, progressing to take up senior roles in tech, including Head of IT and IT Director. During her time in IT recruitment, Lisa led her team to win Computing Magazine’s IT Department of the Year.

Lisa set up Barclay Jones in 2008. Led by Lisa, Barclay Jones specialises in helping recruiters generate ROI from technology and digital marketing. She’s even won awards recognising her value as an influencer in the industry. When asked what we can look forward to hearing at WITBoss, Lisa said:

“I love working in tech and being a woman can of course be a challenge. I’m looking forward to sharing how I worked my way from being a history graduate with a massive fear of tech, to an award-winning IT Director in a very sales-led business to business company. The ceiling may be glass, but I am keen to discuss practical tips for developing great strategies to improve your PR and career in technology.”

Corecom Consulting is set to launch WITBoss on 19 May 2016 as part of our award-winning Boss Event Networking Series.  WITBoss is specifically targeted towards female leaders within IT and we’re pleased to be welcoming Gillian Arnold, Chair of British Computing Society (BCS) Women and Non-Exec on the Board of WISE, to speak at the event which will take place in central Leeds.

Gillian Arnold, also listed in the Computer Weekly top 10 most influential women in IT for 2015, has revealed her presentation topic for WITBoss and has titled it ‘Deconstructing the Glass Ceiling’.  Gillian’s presentation will look at the elements that can mean an inequality of opportunity for women in Technology and how to counter them.  Her talk will outline the essential elements which make up the glass ceiling, the impact that they will have, and how to ensure you make it through.

Speaking ahead of the event, Gillian Arnold said:

“Shockingly, we make little progress on increasing the numbers of women in technology roles in the UK.  Whilst I believe that much of the issue is for the employers to deal with, I know that women in tech will want to get active and boost their own chances of getting the best career they can get.  So this session will offer hints and tips on getting through the glass ceiling.”

As well as having Gillian Arnold as the guest speaker, Helen Wollaston, Chief Executive of WISE will be attending the event to share her experiences and explain the campaigns that are in place to promote women in science, technology, and engineering industries.
