Is time travel possible? Find out here…

This year marks a century since the first time the UK wound back the dials at the end of British Summer Time. That’s right, the time has finally come to turn the clocks back by one hour on Sunday 30 October 2016 at 2AM. You have known the ‘Spring Forward, Fall Back’ mnemonic since you were about five years old but you still can’t figure out if this one means you get an extra hour in bed or not…

Now although most mobile phones and electronic devices will turn the clocks back automatically for you, it is definitely worth checking if you’ve got something important to do on Sunday morning, because you will end up being an hour early, and miss out on an extra hour in bed?!

Each year there seems to be some confusion over turning back time, so why do we do it?  Well, the clocks change by one hour in Autumn in an attempt to make the most out of the light.  It all started in 1916 when the First World War was underway in an attempt to reduce coal consumption at a time when supplies were needed for the war effort.

The clocks going back marks the end of British Summer Time (BST) and reverts back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Here’s a selection of things that could happen if you forget to change your clocks back:

  • You’ll miss out on an hour of sleep, and no one wants that!
  • Those of you with trust issues be prepared to spend an hour on Google (smartphone or not), checking to see which clocks you can truly trust…
  • Turning up an hour early for a first date, did someone say keen?

To avoid any embarrassment be sure to leave yourself plenty of time in the morning and double check with Siri as to what the correct time is, she won’t be wrong… Or will she?

Corecom Care 14/07/2016

4 ways Corecom Consulting shows customer care

Customer care is at the heart of everything we do at Corecom Consulting.  It is something that shapes our business activities, enabling us to develop a loyal customer base and build strong, lasting relationships with our stakeholders.

Managing and delivering high levels of customer service is what differentiates Corecom Consulting from its competition which is why we see it as such a valuable asset.

Here are four things that our consultants do to show our customers that we care:

1.   Meetings

Meetings, and lots of them.  Our consultants book in meetings as soon as they speak with candidates in order to get to know them and build a lasting relationship from the start.  Whether it’s at our offices or out for a coffee, consultants like to make candidates feel at ease throughout the duration of the recruitment process.

We also engage in regular client meetings to better understand the company culture, enabling consultants to make more informed decisions on what kind of personality will be best suited for the role and company in question.

2.   CV Reviews

Consultants offer every candidate a free CV review, providing guidance on what to include and how to lay it out.  A good CV can make or break a candidate’s application, which is why we see it as such fundamental part to get right.

3.   Pre-Interview Meetings

Our consultants like to meet with candidates prior to their interviews to run through any last minute questions they have.  Candidates are taken to the interview by one of our consultants and introduced to the hiring manager.  We feel that this part of the process is vital in order to ease nerves and it starts the interview in a positive way.

4.   Post-Placement Care

Celebratory Meal

After an offer has been made, candidates are taken out for a celebratory meal by our consultants to congratulate them on their new roles.

Review Meeting

After a couple of weeks, one of our consultants will visit the candidate in work and have separate meetings with the candidate and their manager.  Feedback will be taken from the manager and given to the candidate and vice versa to make sure the candidate has settled in well.

One recommendation that Rick Hughes, Director and Head of Testing / QA at Corecom, recently received, was from Bryan Elder, a contract Test Analyst.  The letter came as a result of Rick meeting with Bryan to discuss his career ambitions, helping with external applications and offering valuable professional advice.

This just goes to show the importance of customer care and giving candidates exceptional experiences.  Why not head over to the candidate section of our website?

Sacha wins first Semi-pro fight 05/07/2016

Sacha Smith wins by T.K.O.

Following sponsorship of employee and Senior Resourcer Sacha Smith, Corecom Consulting is pleased to announce that Sacha was victorious in her first ever licensed semi-professional boxing match on 1 July 2016.

Having prepared for weeks in advance of the fight, Sacha proved to be too much for her Stockport-based opponent, beating her after just 1 minute 22 seconds by Technical Knockout (T.K.O.). Sacha’s challenger was given an eight-second count prior to the decision being made to stop the fight, following an onslaught of jabs and right hooks.

Reflecting on her fight Sacha said:

“I am delighted to have won my first licensed semi-pro fight last week by T.K.O. and it was fantastic to see so many staff from Corecom Consulting in the crowd supporting me from start to finish.

“I’d like to thank them for sponsoring me on what was such a big occasion for both myself and my boxing career.”

Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director of Corecom Consulting said:

“Watching Sacha doing what she’s so passionate about was thrilling.  She’s been on a very strict diet and tough training programme for a long time now and it was wonderful to see that her hard work and determination paid off in the ring.”

Sacha will now have a bit of time off from her hard training routine until it all starts again in preparation for her next home fight in October.  The Corecom Consulting team wish her the best of luck for all her upcoming matches and will be supporting her throughout.

To find out more about Sacha’s boxing routine and fight last week follow this link. If you want to learn more about Sacha’s future matches please contact Sacha on s.smith@corecomconsulting.co.uk

Corecom sponsors semi-pro boxer 29/06/2016

Corecom Sponsors Semi-pro Boxer

Award-winning IT recruitment specialist, Corecom Consulting has announced sponsorship of employee and Senior Consultant, Sacha Smith, in her upcoming boxing fight on 1 July 2016.

Sacha has been preparing for a number of weeks ahead of her competition with a strict dietary routine and tough training procedures.  Here is a snapshot of her weekly training programme:

Monday:          Hill sprints and running, stamina on the bags (long rounds of non-stop punching).

Tuesday:         Billy Burnout (our trainer Billy puts us through numerous torturous exercises for at least half an hour), then bag work and sparring.

Wednesday:    Hill sprints in the park, bag work and sparring.

Thursday:       Outdoor workout, including running up and down the stairs, jogging, tyre flipping.  Then bag work, sparring and abs.

Friday:            Strength work, including weight training, shoulders, legs and abs.

Saturday:        A 1-2-1 personal session focusing on technique, with pads.

Speaking ahead of her fight, Sacha said:

“I’ve only been boxing for a year but I already have five competitive fights under my belt, winning four and losing just one.  I’m very excited for this fight as it will be the first that is marked on my semi-professional boxing license with this being my first European Boxing Federation (EBF) licensed fight.

“I first got into boxing when I signed up for a charity boxing fight last year, raising £350 for MacMillan Cancer Support.  I really enjoyed the training in preparation for the fight and so I decided to stick with it.

“Although I am well prepared for the fight I am against stiff competition fighting against Sam Dekota from Stockport, but I am confident that my 10 hour a week training programme and intense dieting will place me in good stead for the challenge.”

Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director of Corecom Consulting said:

“It’s a pleasure to be sponsoring Sacha on such a big occasion for her. Her branded shorts have arrived and they look great with the Corecom logo on, and on behalf of the team here I’d like to wish her the best of luck for the fight on 1 July.”

Many of the staff from Corecom Consulting will be attending the fight to show their support for Sacha for what will hopefully be her first win as a semi-professional boxer.

Sacha will be fighting on the evening of Friday 1 July 2016 at The Bramley Villagers Community Club, Broad Lane, Leeds.  Those interested in spectating can contact Sacha directly on 07947 518132 or s.smith@corecomconsulting.co.uk

Jonathan Sanderson's 10 Rules for Success 23/06/2016

Jonathan Sanderson – Ten Rules for Success

Last but not least in Corecom Consulting’s ‘Leadership and Success Series’ is Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director of Corecom Consulting, an award-winning IT recruitment specialist. Here are Jonathan’s top ten rules for success:

Tell a good story

“All my favourite leaders are exceptional at telling stories and inspiring people with the tales of their success or the lessons they teach. You should have built up a pool of analogies for every occasion.”

Lead by example

“Leaders need respect and you won’t gain respect if you’re not prepared to demonstrate you are willing to do what needs to be done.”

Share your vision & values

“People achieve much more when they are working towards a cause rather than just an objective.”

Know what your team wants

“You can’t motivate your team without knowing what they want. Understanding how to meet their personal needs will reward you greatly.”

Have fun

“People want to follow those who are having a good time. If you enjoy what you do it makes it a lot easier to inspire others. True leaders are passionate about what they do.”

Ask for feedback

“The only way you can improve is to ask for feedback. People who are following won’t naturally give you feedback and if you’re not receiving feedback regularly you are doing something wrong.”

Take accountability

“Leaders need to show that they are human and that it is OK to make mistakes. Demonstrate that you are prepared to live to your values and use feedback to improve.”

Take an interest in your team’s success

“You need to help coach your team to be the best that they can be. Helping others grow is the best way to help yourself grow and if you want people to succeed you need to have a real passion for it.”

Delegate effectively

“The art of leadership is being a good delegator. The team needs responsibility to help you achieve yours and your company’s goals. I have failed in the past by trying to show that I can do it all. You are helping people develop individually and professionally if you let them learn by completing new tasks.”

Take time to think

“At least once a week, I sit down for 20 -30 minutes with a piece of paper, a question at the top and my first bullet point. I make sure that there is always a new empty bullet point to prompt a new idea. I often find that my best ideas come towards the end of my thinking.”

Jonathan Sanderson has recently been featured in Leeds Beckett University’s ‘Leading 360 Series’ for the Centre of Governance, Leadership and Global Responsibility which can be viewed here. Corecom has also written blogs for Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Elon Musk’s ten rules for success which you can read through the links provided.
