Meet Harrison Hookway, PSO Team Leader at Tunstall Healthcare

“I started at Tunstall as a PMO Analyst in April 2019 where I supported the development of the PMO function in the Innovation and Development department. I am now the Project Support Office (PSO) Team Leader and we are looking to expand the team by recruiting a PSO analyst. The willingness to adapt, improve and learn as the company has developed over the last 18 months has provided me with a number of opportunities and Tunstall has supported my success; I have completed a Prince 2 Agile Practitioner qualification which has allowed me to strengthen my knowledge base and skills.
It’s great to work for an organisation which provides support to vulnerable people and seeing what comes out of the work I do. I came into the office one day during lockdown, for example, and overheard an emergency call to our support staff. The way they were reassuring this person, making sure that they were okay and advising them that response was on its way, really made me see first-hand how much good we do.
I really enjoy the variety of work; with people on site, across Europe and across the globe. There’s so much experience and different perspectives to benefit from, making Tunstall a refreshing and collaborative place to work. It’s very rewarding to see software being developed, walking through the factory of hardware being assembled and then seeing people supporting our end users, all in the same building.
If I were to give some tips for success to someone thinking about joining the Tunstall team, they would be to come in with an open mind; even though we’re a big company we have that family feel where everyone mucks in to get the job done. The business is also very keen on improvement and development so it’s important to want to be part of a journey where those things are paramount.
Tunstall is full of opportunities; we play to people’s strengths. If you come in and prove yourself as willing to grow and improve you can go really far at Tunstall.”
Meet John Lettice, Head of TSP Platform

“I have worked in IT for over 35 years, beginning my career at IBM in the mid 80’s. I started life off as a programmer, but I’ve been a general manager, delivery manager, project manager, programme director and various heads of software development and delivery teams; many varied roles.
I joined Tunstall because it is a socially responsible organisation with great products – they look after vulnerable and elderly people, making sure they can live independent lives, which is fantastic. The organisation itself has got some great technology, some great ideas and lovely people. As Head of TSP Platform, I am responsible for delivering the latest changes and enhancements to the TSP Platform. TSP is our response centre software which has many, many millions of lines of code. I therefore have Software Development teams (in Ridgley and just outside Madrid), a Tech Deck Team, a new Deployment Team and a Firmware Team who report into me. We’ve created a separate deployment team that’s going to be about 16-strong, who will be responsible for helping deployments around the globe.
Our short-term vision is that we want to improve how we adopt and use agile and scrum. We want to get more mechanisms in our build and integration pipelines and be far better at automated testing. Medium term, there’s a lot of exciting stuff we’re looking at around new technologies, using data to be more proactive, rather than responsive, in providing our services. We’d like to start looking at apprenticeships and recruiting graduates in 2021; nurturing local talent once we’ve recruited more experienced developers.
The most appealing things about working at Tunstall is that we have a spacious working environment, we’ve got good kit and interesting projects. We’ve got a fantastic bunch of people, who are very supportive, with a can-do and ‘how do we work together?’ attitude. We work with hardware and firmware, as well as the actual software itself. We are a technology company with colleagues across the globe and a growing and profitable business.”
