Company Directors help the Previously Homeless
Company Directors, Jonathan Sanderson and Rick Hughes, have spent time volunteering at Emmaus Leeds – a charity for the formerly homeless. They, along with Meagan Stobart from the Operations Department, provided support with clothes sorting, delivering and collecting furniture and appliances and assisted with warehouse deliveries.
When Jonathan, Rick and Meagan were asked about the experiences they gained from the day, here’s what they said:
Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director
“Corecom Consulting established a partnership with Emmaus Leeds back in 2015. We are committed to supporting Companions through volunteering our time, fundraising and mentoring to assist the charity.
“This time I helped in the warehouse, lifting and allocating items that were donated and delivered to the shop at St Mary’s Street. As always, working alongside the Companions was extremely insightful and rewarding.
“The partnership we hold with Emmaus is so important to us that all employees at Corecom Consulting are encouraged to take at least one day out of company time to volunteer in the community.”
Rick Hughes, Director and Head of Testing/QA
“My morning consisted of working alongside two Companions, making deliveries and collections of furniture and electrical appliances across various locations in Leeds.
“It was great to spend time with them by getting to know the stories behind what they do day to day and how they originally became involved with the Charity.
“We spent lunch with the Companions which was great – tasted fantastic and we learnt even more about them, including their work and life experiences. It was a truly rewarding and humbling experience.”
Meagan Stobart, Operations Support
“When we all arrived at Emmaus, we were welcomed with open arms. Before our day started, we were provided with the Emmaus uniform and a tour of the building. My job for the morning was clothes sorting. This involved working alongside a Companion of Emmaus, putting tags onto clothes, hanging them on coat hangers and then putting them in the shop to sell.
“The Companions cooked us lunch which was delicious. It was so nice to hear that all the food they cooked is donated from local businesses.
“This was such an insightful experience – I could see the difference that just that little bit of help I gave made.”
Corecom Consulting is making plans to deliver further IT training sessions and volunteering days at Emmaus Leeds later in the year – we’ll keep you posted.
