Boss’ Day | Recognising an outstanding leader, mentor and role model

Today we are celebrating Boss’ Day and appreciating our much loved ‘Boss’ Jonathan Sanderson who is an outstanding leader, mentor and role-model to his employees and the IT Recruitment industry.

During these challenging economic times, Jonathan has led Corecom, swiftly adapting and growing but maintaining total commitment to:

  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Increasing the number of women in technology roles
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise with clients
  • Supporting charities, university students and the local community
  • Increasing the health and wellbeing of his employees

Here is just a snapshot of what our inspiring leader has achieved over the last 12 months.

An award-winning boss:

Just this year, Jonathan’s efforts have led to Corecom Consulting gaining Investors in People Platinum Status and winning ‘The UK’s Leading IT Recruitment Company’ for the second year running, as well as achieving the following:

Diversity and Inclusion:

Jonathan has a vision to transform the Tech sector, leading the way by being a truly diverse and inclusive employer. He has made key appointments of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Ambassadors to champion the cause, both within his own team and offering advice and mentoring to the teams of his clients. Jonathan has invested in employee training from a D&I expert, providing an accredited course for the company Ambassadors.

Women in Technology (WIT):

Jonathan is fully committed to increasing the number of Women in Technology (WIT) roles and leadership positions. He has built a WIT Engagement Team and he is working closely with Liverpool and Leeds Beckett universities, supporting young women thinking of entering the IT sector, by developing their career-building skills. In June 2021, Jonathan also commissioned a ground-breaking survey into what was most important to women working in the technology sector. Women identified key aspects, such as equal pay to male counterparts, flexible working arrangements and access to training and career development and Jonathan is using the findings to enhance the opportunities for women in technology.

Staff well-being:

Jonathan has implemented an Employee Health and Wellbeing Strategy. It aims to improve the morale, job satisfaction and the physical and emotional well-being of his employees. Having surveyed our employees, it’s clear that they feel he is a diverse and inclusive employer that puts his people first, prioritises their well-being, work-life balance and career development.

Adapting Corecom’s business model:

A challenge Jonathan has faced, is the economic impact of the Covid19 pandemic. He recognised that he needed to adapt quickly and change his business model; to pivot. This enabled him to grow the business, even during the pandemic.

Introducing hybrid working permanently:

The pandemic necessitated working from home and employees reported that, for some tasks, this was very beneficial. Jonathan has listened to employees as to how they work best, and he has permanently implemented a hybrid model of working where employees work both from home and in the office, depending on the nature of the work required on that particular day.

Recognising the importance of the local community during a pandemic:

Already having an association with Candlelighters; a charity that has helped children with cancer and their families in Yorkshire for many years, Jonathan became a member of Candlelighters’ Team 500 in 2020. Team 500 was created following a sharp decline in fundraising after the onset of Covid19. Jonathan has supported recent events such as Pink It Up Week, in July 2021, aimed at brightening the days of young people and their families whilst undergoing a stay in hospital. He recognises the social responsibility and the importance of giving back to the wider community.

Jonathan was also involved with Pink It Up, funding pink party bags for children staying on the oncology wards at Leeds Children’s Hospital. He hopes that, in some small way, this brightened the days of the children, teens and parents on the wards and brought a smile to their faces.
